The GitLab platform is a software development environment with an integrated repository. The FHNW sources SWITCH’s GitLab service as a software-as-a-service (managed hosting) solution. The ransomware group “FOG” has copied part of the data (software code) and copied it on 5. March 2025 provided on the Darknet.
The University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) has been affected by data theft in connection with a ransomware attack. The educational institution confirmed this to watson on Thursday and subsequently informed about the incident on its own website. A corresponding posting was published on the darknet on Wednesday. According to the post, unknown cyber criminals are making 93 gigabytes of stolen GitLab data accessible to third parties.
