Before and after a crisis, lessons learned from the Barcelona terrorist attack | Ingeborg Porcar Becker, Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB)
In this Keynote, Ingeborg will tell us about the multiple year preparation the city of Barcelona did to ready themselves for a terrorist attack, and how these plans worked out when an attack happened.
About Ingeborg
Ingeborg Porcar Becker holds a doctorate in social psychology and is an accredited expert in crisis management, trauma prevention and conflict management. She also has extensive experience as a clinical psychologist. From 2010 to 2017 Ingeborg was the Spanish representative in the Standing Committee for Crisis and Disasters of the European Federation of Psychologists Associations (EFPA). She currently belongs to the Counter Terrorism Preparedness Network (CTPN), and the EU Centre of Expertise for Victims of Terrorism (EUCVT).
In 2010 Ingeborg founded the Trauma, Crisis and Conflict Unit of Barcelona (UTCCB), associated with the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), which she has directed ever since. Between 2015 and 2018 she advised the health authorities of Barcelona, first in the preparation for a possible terrorist attack, and then in their response to the attack that occurred on 17 August 2017.
How teams work together in a crisis | Wouter Beijersbergen van Henegouwen
About Wouter
For nearly a decade Wouter dedicated himself to the realm of crisis management at Trimension, serving both government entities and private businesses. This role also saw him assume responsibilities as a crisis and project manager, overseeing various initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and resilience of the community.
In November 2022 Wouter became Assignment Manager for Resilience at the municipality of The Hague. This role presents a fresh set of challenges and opportunities, allowing him to further refine his skills in crisis management and resilience building.
How to learn from a crisis | Roel Derkx
‘Never waste a good crisis’ is a common saying. But how can you make the most use of the lessons learned from a crisis? How do you do a good debrief? And how can you learn during a crisis. In this training, we will address these questions and more.
About Roel
Roel Derckx is a highly experienced trainer-advisor in crisis management, with an analytical background as a Delft engineer and extensive experience in psychological and group dynamic processes. His focus is on strengthening people’s resilience and ingenuity – understanding what they need and helping them with practical tools. That’s his passion. Giving people the justified feeling that they are capable of much more than they think possible – in work, during crises, and other complex situations. Helping people to develop the necessary competencies for ‘coordinated improvisation’ that will enable them to cope with, and even excel under difficult circumstances.
Creative problem solving | Marthe Huibers
It is very hard to stay creative and flexible while you are under a lot of stress. Unfortunately, this is exactly what is needed from you when a crisis hits, as the problems of a crisis will be unpredictable and will demand a great deal of improvisation. Luckily, Marthe will help us find ways to keep accessing the creative parts of our brains, even (or especially) in times of crisis!
About Marthe
Marthe Huibers is an organisational psychologist, fascinated by (effective and ineffective) human behaviour, especially in the context of teams and organisations. It never ceases to amaze her to see what people in “effective” teams can achieve when working together (unfortunately, it also keeps surprising her how ineffective teamwork can cause brilliant people to achieve very mediocre to downright bad results…). After working as a trainer/consultant in the field of crisis management for over 10 years, she is now trainer and team coach for leaders and teams, teaching them to (re)discover and work at their fullest (crisis-)potential.
